Trump Expands Military and Border Patrol Recruitment at Colorado Rodeo Event Recruitment Drive Takes Center Stage at America's 250th Celebration The United States marked its 250th anniversary with more than just patriotic celebrations. A special rodeo event in Colorado Springs brought together military recruitment, law enforcement, and Western culture to encourage more Americans to serve their country. The event, called PBR Space Cowboys, attracted more than 30,000 visitors to the US Air Force Academy's Falcon Stadium. Alongside thrilling bull riding competitions, military branches and federal agencies introduced career opportunities to thousands of attendees. Air Force, Space Force, and Border Patrol Recruit New Talent Before the rodeo began, 33 new Air Force recruits took their oath of service in front of spectators. Soon after, professional bull riders entered the arena, creating a powerful display of patriotism and American tradition. The US Space Force helped organize the event and welcomed visitors interested in careers related to national security and space operations. At the same time, the US Border Patrol set up recruitment booths in the fan zone to speak directly with potential applicants. Organizers believed the rodeo audience shared many of the same values required for public service, including responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and dedication. Border Patrol Expands Hiring Under Trump's Administration Border security remains one of President Donald Trump's major priorities. His administration has introduced several measures to increase the number of Border Patrol agents across the country. Last year, new legislation authorized the hiring of 3,000 additional Border Patrol agents. More recently, another funding package dedicated approximately $70 billion to border security for the remainder of Trump's term. Around $26 billion of that funding supports Border Patrol recruitment, training, and employee retention. As a result of these efforts, the agency recently announced that it now has more than 21,000 active agents, the highest number since its establishment in 1924. Rodeo Fans Learn About Career Opportunities Recruitment activities remained visible throughout the event. Border Patrol officers displayed vehicles, answered questions, and met with visitors while families enjoyed games, food, and live country music nearby. Many attendees stopped to explore career options. Some visitors had already considered military service, while others learned about Border Patrol opportunities for the first time. Eighteen year old Cody Price said he had explored joining the military but could not qualify because of asthma. After speaking with Border Patrol recruiters, he discovered the agency has different medical requirements, making it a possible career path for him. Price also acknowledged that Border Patrol continues to receive significant public attention because immigration remains one of the country's most debated political issues. Recruitment Strategy Targets New Audiences Holding recruitment campaigns at major public events allows military branches and federal agencies to connect with people who may never attend a traditional career fair. By combining entertainment with public service, officials hope to inspire a new generation of recruits while strengthening the nation's military and border security workforce. As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, events like PBR Space Cowboys demonstrate how government agencies are using creative outreach strategies to attract future service members and law enforcement officers.

US Marks 250th Independence Anniversary with Fireworks, Air Force Flyover and Weather Disruptions Celebrations Continue Despite Storm Delays The United States celebrated its 250th Independence anniversary with grand events across the country. Millions gathered to enjoy fireworks, concerts, parades, and patriotic ceremonies. Although severe weather interrupted several celebrations, the nationwide spirit remained strong. In Washington, DC, organizers temporarily paused activities after a thunderstorm moved through the area. Officials asked visitors at the National Mall, the Salute to America event, the Great American State Fair, and the FIFA Fan Zone to move into nearby buildings until conditions became safe. Once the storm cleared, the celebrations quickly resumed. Visitors returned to the event grounds to enjoy the remaining activities. Fireworks and Air Force Flyover Highlight the Night The evening featured a spectacular military flyover that included the new Air Force One aircraft. A patriotic concert followed, bringing together thousands of people in the nation's capital. The night ended with a colorful fireworks display that lit up the Washington skyline. The show concluded around 1:00 a.m. local time. Spectators applauded the finale before leaving the National Mall as light rain began to fall. Trump Delivers Patriotic Message During the celebrations, President Donald Trump delivered remarks focused on America's history and future. He described the anniversary as the beginning of what he called America's "golden age." Trump also said the nation's future was guided by God and expressed confidence in the country's continued growth and strength. Visitors Travel from Across the Country Many Americans traveled long distances to take part in the historic celebration. Tammy Wapshott, who traveled from South Carolina, said she had planned her trip to Washington since November. She explained that she wanted to celebrate what she believes is "the best country in the world," adding that Americans are free to live the way they choose. The anniversary attracted families, tourists, veterans, and supporters from many different states, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the capital. Extreme Weather Impacts Holiday Events While Washington resumed its celebrations after the storm, extreme weather affected Independence Day events in other parts of the country. High temperatures forced officials to cancel or modify several Fourth of July activities. Organizers placed public safety first by adjusting schedules and advising people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the heat. Despite these challenges, communities across the United States continued marking the country's historic milestone with local celebrations. White Nationalist Group Marches in Washington During the anniversary events, approximately 400 members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front marched through parts of Washington, DC. The group carried American flags while moving in formation near the US Capitol and Union Station. Videos shared on social media showed members wearing masks and matching clothing as they marched through the streets. Authorities monitored the situation while the city's larger Independence Day celebrations continued without major disruption. A Historic Milestone for the United States The 250th anniversary of American independence marked one of the country's most significant national celebrations. Although storms and extreme heat created challenges, millions of Americans continued to celebrate with pride. The combination of patriotic ceremonies, military displays, concerts, and fireworks reflected the importance of the occasion as the nation looked back on its history while looking ahead to the future.

Up to 150 TG Jones Stores to Close After Court Approves Rescue Plan Court Approves Major Restructuring Plan TG Jones, the former WH Smith High Street business, has received court approval for a major restructuring plan that could lead to the closure of up to 150 stores across the UK. The decision is part of a wider effort to reduce costs and improve the company's long term financial position. The retailer currently operates 451 stores and employs around 4,700 people. However, the approved restructuring is expected to reduce the network to around 302 locations, depending on agreements with landlords. Why the Company Is Closing Stores Investment firm Modella Capital purchased the High Street business last year and later rebranded it as TG Jones. The travel division, which operates in airports and railway stations, remained under WH Smith and was not included in the sale. According to the company, the business has struggled because of difficult retail conditions, years of limited investment in stores, and the loss of the well known WH Smith brand name. These factors have contributed to declining sales and increased financial pressure. Company representatives told the court that TG Jones was facing an urgent cash shortage and needed immediate action to avoid insolvency. Without the restructuring plan, the retailer risked running out of money within days. Rent Cuts and Store Closures As part of the rescue package, around 120 landlords will not receive rent for up to three years. In addition, hundreds of other stores will receive rent reductions ranging from 15% to 75%. Modella Capital believes these savings will help stabilize the business and allow future investment in stores that remain open. The company says the plan gives TG Jones the best chance of returning to a stronger financial position. Landlords and Suppliers Raise Concerns Several landlords and suppliers opposed the restructuring plan, arguing that it placed an unfair financial burden on them. British Land was among the most vocal opponents during the legal process. Following further negotiations and several changes to the proposal, British Land withdrew its objections. Even so, many suppliers are still expected to face financial losses under the approved plan. Judge Gives Final Approval The High Court reviewed whether the restructuring would leave creditors in a better position than placing the company into administration. After considering the evidence, the judge approved the proposal. In his decision, Mr Justice Hildyard described the restructuring as both complex and far reaching. He concluded that the plan offered the most practical solution for preserving the business while avoiding a more damaging insolvency process.
