Starbucks Korea to close stores briefly after public backlash over campaign Public outrage over promotional campaign Starbucks in South Korea faced strong criticism after a promotional campaign sparked anger. The campaign launched reusable cups linked to a product theme that many people said was insensitive. The timing coincided with the anniversary of the Gwangju Uprising, a tragic event where civilians were killed during a military crackdown. Nationwide apology and action The company operating Starbucks in South Korea, Shinsegae Group, responded quickly. It removed its country chief executive after the backlash. The chairman also agreed to take part in the training program. Starbucks Korea issued an apology and said it did not intend to cause public harm or discomfort. Stores to close for staff training All Starbucks stores in South Korea will close for three hours in the afternoon next Wednesday. They will shut at 3 pm local time and reopen the next day. This marks the first nationwide early closure since the brand entered the country in 1999. Employees will also take part in an internal learning session earlier in the week. The session will focus on historical awareness and social sensitivity through video based training. Government and public reaction South Korea’s president strongly criticised the campaign and called it inappropriate and offensive. Public protests took place outside several stores. The company also saw a noticeable drop in sales after boycott calls spread online. Background of the controversy The promotion featured a tumbler series described as having a large capacity. The branding and timing led to criticism because it coincided with a sensitive historical anniversary. Starbucks Korea later clarified that the product line was part of a wider campaign running over several days.

Tragic Skydiving Flight Ends in Deadly Crash A small skydiving aircraft crashed near Butler, Missouri, around 11:20 local time on Sunday. The plane was carrying 11 passengers and one pilot. No one survived the crash. Witnesses said the aircraft suddenly lost control shortly after departure and spun sharply before hitting the ground. Witness Accounts of the Final Moments People who saw the incident described a fast and steep descent. One witness said the plane was almost vertical as it came down and struck the ground at high speed. They explained that there was no time for anyone to react or attempt a safe exit. The aircraft was too low for parachutes to deploy effectively, leaving no chance of survival. Another local skydiver shared that several people on board were known within the community. Many of them had regular experience in skydiving and were familiar faces at local drop zones. Emergency Response and Investigation Federal aviation authorities confirmed that the aircraft was a Pacific Aerospace P750. It crashed while departing from the airfield. Investigators have already arrived at the crash site to begin examining wreckage and flight conditions. Officials are working to determine what caused the plane to lose control so soon after takeoff. Local law enforcement described the incident as a mass casualty event due to the total loss of life. Company Statement and Community Impact The skydiving operator expressed deep sorrow over the incident and described it as a major loss for the wider skydiving community. The company stated that it is cooperating fully with aviation authorities during the investigation. Officials also noted that the aircraft was not in active communication with air traffic control at the time of the crash, as it was not required for that type of flight operation.

Jet Ski Speeding and Safety Concerns at Conwy Harbour Dangerous Speeds Reported on Water Jet skiers have been recorded travelling at extreme speeds in Conwy Harbour. Reports show some riders reaching up to 30 or 40 knots, which is around three to four times the local 10 knot speed limit. Authorities say children have been seen on board during these high speed runs. This has raised serious safety concerns for other water users in the area. Efforts to Control Reckless Activity Conwy council has installed CCTV cameras to monitor activity in the harbour. The system is meant to help identify those breaking speed rules. However, enforcement has faced challenges. Some riders have removed registration plates to avoid being identified. This has made it harder to take action against offenders. Harbour officials say this behaviour appears planned, as it suggests awareness of camera coverage in the area. High Risk Area Identified Officials have highlighted a narrow section of water between Deganwy and the navigation beacons as the most problematic zone. This area is heavily used and leaves little room for error at high speed. Clear warning signs are placed at key points around the harbour, including slipways and marina exits. Yellow marker buoys also indicate the speed restricted zone. Safety Concerns Raised by Harbour Authorities The Harbour Master has described repeated cases of dangerous behaviour in recent months. He stressed that only a small number of users are responsible, but their actions put others at risk. Authorities say they are still working on gathering stronger evidence. They want to link speeding incidents with vessel launch points before taking formal action. Steps Being Taken Officials are improving warning signage to make speed limits clearer. They are also working with CCTV teams to record incidents in real time. Plans for further enforcement are still in development as authorities try to close gaps that allow offenders to avoid penalties.

Funeral held in Fleurance as community grieves An 11 year old girl, Lyhanna, was laid to rest in the town of Fleurance in south western France. Family, friends, and local residents attended the funeral to pay their final respects. The town showed public support with flags lowered at local institutions. Public anger grows over missed warnings The case has triggered strong public reaction across the region. Many residents are questioning how authorities handled earlier warnings linked to the suspected attacker. Officials had been alerted months before the killing about allegations involving the main suspect, Jérôme Barella. However, no formal questioning took place at that time. Separate intelligence reports also suggested possible concerning online activity. That information was reviewed but later treated as low priority. Investigation expands to suspect’s family The investigation has widened beyond the main suspect. Authorities have placed his brother under investigation following rape allegations made by two women, including one who was underage at the time of the alleged incident. He denies the claims. The suspect’s father is also under investigation in a separate case involving historical abuse allegations. He has denied all accusations. Case raises questions about police response Lyhanna disappeared after being seen leaving school with the suspect’s daughter. Her body was later found on a nearby farm after a search operation. The case has now become a wider national concern. Critics are questioning why earlier reports were not acted on more quickly and why multiple warnings did not lead to stronger preventive action.

People who were groomed and sexually abused as children, then later prosecuted for crimes linked to exploitation, are still facing long term harm. A major report author says the current government response does not fully address the scale of wrongful convictions and needs a broader approach. Background of the issue A senior investigator who led a national inquiry into grooming exploitation cases has raised concerns about the way past convictions are being handled. She previously urged authorities to cancel convictions of victims who were punished for offences committed while they were being abused. The government has introduced a law aimed at pardoning certain prostitution related offences involving children. However, critics say this step is too limited and does not address the wider group of survivors affected by similar convictions. Concerns over the current approach The investigator described the current policy as an easy solution that avoids deeper action. She argues that a proper system should be created to review and cancel all convictions that were influenced by child sexual exploitation. She believes the existing process lacks care and structure, leaving many survivors without justice. In her view, the response so far has not met the needs of those affected. Government response Officials say they will continue working on reviewing convictions where a person’s childhood abuse may have influenced criminal behaviour. They also encourage affected individuals to contact the official body responsible for reviewing potential wrongful convictions. Survivor experience One survivor, using a protected identity, described how she was abused from a young age and repeatedly exploited by many men across different locations. Despite being a child at the time, she was arrested multiple times and treated as an offender. She received her first conviction at 17 for offences linked to street solicitation. At the time, she did not understand what was happening to her and was labelled in court as a sex worker. Years later, she recognises she was being exploited and raped throughout that period. She says the system failed to protect her and instead punished her for actions linked to abuse.

The Indian aviation safety authority has confirmed that more time is needed before it can publish the final findings. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said it has made strong progress over the past year. Student Protests Erupt in Jakarta Hundreds of university students gathered in Indonesia’s capital on Friday. They protested against government policies they believe are hurting the economy. Many warned that continued wasteful spending could push the country toward financial trouble. The demonstrations took place amid growing public frustration over economic management and rising living costs. Concerns Over Government Spending and Free Meals Program Protesters urged President Prabowo Subianto to cut what they called unnecessary state spending. They also demanded the cancellation of a major free meals program. Students said the program has faced serious problems, including food safety incidents and corruption concerns. They argued that public funds should be used more carefully. The program remains a key part of the president’s agenda and was central during his election campaign. Government officials say it aims to reduce child malnutrition and improve education outcomes. Fuel Price Increase Sparks Public Anger Students also opposed recent fuel price increases introduced by state energy authorities. Prices for widely used fuel types rose significantly, increasing pressure on household budgets. Many protesters said rising fuel costs are making daily life more difficult, especially for middle income families. A student voice at the protest said living costs are rising while wages remain under pressure, adding to public frustration. Clashes at Key Jakarta Landmark Tensions rose as students attempted to march toward a central landmark in Jakarta. Police formed barricades to block their path. Some demonstrators pushed against the barriers, and objects were thrown during the confrontation. Police used shields to control the crowd. No confirmed reports of serious injuries appeared at the time. Social media users shared updates under a slogan that expressed fears about the country’s economic direction. Rising Economic Pressure and Public Debate The protests come during a period of currency weakness and wider economic concern. The local currency has recently dropped to new lows, adding to financial anxiety among citizens. Public debate has grown around government priorities, especially large scale social programs versus economic stability. Critics argue that spending decisions need tighter control. Officials continue to defend current policies, saying they are designed for long term national development.
