The group’s best-known songs include Agadoo, Superman, and Do The Conga, which were mainstays at summer discos all over the UK in the middle of the 1980s.
They participated in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest as well, placing eighth.
“It is with heartbreaking news that I am letting you all know my dearest husband Colin Gibb died this afternoon,” wrote Gibb’s wife Sue Kelly in a Facebook post announcing his passing.
“I love you, Colin. You lived the Agadoo dream for 22 years, and this Thursday was our planned retirement to Spain. You were so excited about our new life, and now you’re not here.”
“As we used to say, always love you forever.”
Last month, Gibb declared his intention to resign from the organization and relocate to Spain alongside his spouse.
The following was posted as a tribute on the official Black Lace Facebook fan page: “We announce the sudden demise of our beloved friend Colin Gibb with tremendous regret.
“Colin and Alan Barton were two of the founding members of Black Lace, and everyone who knew him will deeply mourn his passing.
“We’d like to send his family and friends all our love and support at this extremely difficult time.”
