During an appearance on “The Ricky Cobb Show” on OutKick, Wells referred to Manfred as the “worst commissioner in the game” and accused him of trying too hard to alter the outcome.
The critical comments were made during a pitch count conversation.
Cobb mentioned that when Wells was with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1999, he frequently threw over 100 pitches in a game. According to Wells, pitchers nowadays don’t pitch the way they did when he was a player. Pitchers are overly preoccupied with pitching to zones instead.
Their game isn’t long toss. They take no action,” Wells remarked. “They focus on the game’s analytics and the zones they can pitch in, but we were always required to pitch in zones. We had to work things out for the guys, and these days they have it all laid out for them.
So, in my opinion, it just comes down to having the right mindset and acting. And be aware of who can beat you and who has success against you, but exercise caution anyway. All you have to do is hit your spots. Additionally, they only throw to one zone now days when facing a particular hitter. And, to me, I don’t know if I would indulge these new metrics.
