Additionally, “in a world where the international order is being challenged,” the government intends to increase defense spending by £4.4 billion over the next five years, according to Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Denmark, like many other European nations, reduced its military might in the early 1990s as the Cold War came to an end.
But now that Copenhagen is only around 1,000 miles away from a big war, things are shifting.
“We in Denmark are not rearming because we desire conflict, devastation, or agony. In a world when the international order is under threat, we are rearming now to prevent war,” Frederiksen stated.
While Denmark has been able to reach its spending objective thanks to large-scale military aid for Ukraine, which includes the donation of F-16 fighter jets, it has not yet made a significant investment in its own troops.
