The local body elections, which were scheduled for September 29th, were postponed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday.
Details reveal that the electoral watchdog stated: “After the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was approved, the local body elections were postponed.
The Islamabad local body elections schedule has been indefinitely delayed. As part of the Islamabad local body elections, the amending bill has been adopted by the parliament.
The amended bill states that the union councils in Islamabad will add more wards.
Separately, the ECP revised the names of party presidents and chairmen of many political parties last month and provided an updated list of 166 registered political parties as it acknowledged the results of the elections of the PML-N and Jamaat-e-Islami.
