Parts of the COP30 climate summit venue in Belem, Brazil, were evacuated on Thursday after a fire broke out. According to Brazil’s tourism minister, the blaze was quickly brought under control, and no injuries were reported.
The fire reportedly started in the area housing the public-facing pavilions, where nations and organizations showcase their initiatives. Delegates, journalists, and attendees rushed to exit the venue safely, while police formed a perimeter to keep people away from the affected zone.
Footage from the scene showed smoke and flames inside the conference center, which is located on the grounds of a former airport. Authorities confirmed that the situation is now under control.
