KARACHI: After days of scorching temperatures and two heat-related deaths in the port city a day earlier, residents of Karachi saw heavy to light rain on Friday in various parts of the city.
Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Surjani, North Karachi, New Karachi, Malir, Cantt, Mosmiyat, Shahrae Faisal, Bahadurabad, Tipu Sultan, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gadap, and other places are among those that received showers.
Despite the power utility’s claims, the city has been experiencing a heatwave for the past few days, making life miserable for the majority who must endure hours-long unscheduled load-shedding.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city’s typical July temperature is 27.9°C, and Tuesday night was the second-hottest of this month.The port city’s temperature two days prior was an oppressive 40.5°C, which felt more like a searing 56°C.
The Met Office stated in today’s weather forecast that upper portions of the country were being affected by a westerly wave, while southern parts of the country were being affected by monsoon currents originating in the Arabian Sea.
Rain and thundershowers are expected in Sindh, south Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, Potohar Region, Islamabad, and Kashmir, according to the prediction.
