Louie Hinchliffe, a 21-year-old sprint star at the University of Houston who is trained by legendary athlete Carl Lewis, will start as the second-fastest European man this year after setting a personal best of 9.95 in June.
This year, Jeremiah Azu has also cracked the 10-second mark. In 2022, Azu won the British title with a wind-assisted championship record time of 9.90.
Zharnel Hughes, the current British champion and global bronze medallist, is already guaranteed an Olympic berth even though he is missing the competition due to a hamstring injury.
Reece Prescod, a two-time British champion, Romell Glave, a European medallist, and Eugene Amo-Dadzie, who bills himself as the “world’s fastest accountant,” are among the other competitors vying to join Team GB.
Following the championships in Manchester on June 29 and 30, the final British athletics squad for Paris 2024 will be revealed on Friday, July 5.
Athletes must finish in the top two in the qualifications and meet the World Athletics qualification criteria in order to be guaranteed a spot to compete in an individual event at the Olympics.
