KARACHI: Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), refuted rumors that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the MQM-P will be switching seats for the NA-242 constituency in Karachi.
“The reports concerning the seat adjustment in NA-242 Karachi are untrue,” stated Siqqdiui, who also mentioned that Senior Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal is running as the MQM-P candidate in the constituency.
It was reported one day ago that the MQM-P and the PML-N had formed a seat adjustment agreement for three NA constituencies, including NA-242, in which Shehbaz Sharif, the president of the PML-N, is also running for office.
In addition to Shehbaz, sources informed Geo News on Tuesday that the PML-N would run candidates for 11 provincial assembly seats inside these constituencies and five NA seats, including NA-229, 230, and 239.
In the interim,According to them, the MQM-P candidates from Malir’s NA-231 constituency would run in the polls for the national and provincial assembly seats.
The sources went on to say that the party with its headquarters in Karachi will run candidates for the provincial seats in the NA-242 constituency.
In Karachi’s NA-242 constituency, where Kamal had also filed his nomination papers, Shehbaz stated on December 29 that he had filed his own.
During the 2018 general elections, Shehbaz ran from the NA-249 Karachi constituency, however he was narrowly defeated by Faisal Vawda, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the time.
