Under Article 245 of the Constitution, the federal government authorized the deployment of Pakistan Army personnel in Islamabad with the goal of maintaining peace and order in the nation’s capital during the next Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.

The SCO Council of Heads of Government will meet in Islamabad on October 15 and 16, and prominent foreign dignitaries, including Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, will be in town.

A copy of the notification is available with Geo News. It states that from October 5 to October 17, a “requisite strength” of the Pakistan Army will be deployed with the assistance of civil power to ensure law and order in relation to the SCO moot and the visits of VVIP delegations for the aforementioned conference.
