Khawaja Asif, the federal minister of defense, has sharply condemned a recent resolution passed by the US House of Representatives, calling on the US to resolve its own internal problems before meddling in Pakistan’s internal affairs.
Asif made the statement, “Uncle Sam should fix his house and not worry about us,” in an exclusive interview with Samaa TV.
He disclosed that Pakistan intends to carry its ongoing operations against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) within Afghan territory. “Why should we not retaliate if terrorists can attack Pakistan from Afghan soil?” he underlined.
Notwithstanding Pakistan’s long-standing substantial assistance to its neighbor, Afghanistan, the minister voiced anger over the latter’s lack of collaboration. He said, “We have done,” implying that Pakistan’s approach to Afghanistan could need to be reevaluated.
Asif responded to the US resolution by highlighting the divisive nature of American politics and bringing up specific charges made during US elections.
“America should look at its own elections, what its parties have done, and the accusations that have been made before pointing a finger at us,” he declared. “Fix your house, Uncle Sam, and don’t worry about us.”
