LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Monday that it will revert to its previous practice of offering players on the national team a one-year central contract that is contingent on their performance.

The board’s top brass met and made a number of choices, one of which was not to reduce the players’ salaries. The players are under pressure following their disappointing 2024 T20 World Cup performance.

After the Pakistani team failed to live up to the fans’ expectations and exited the competition before even reaching the Super 8 round, the players’ monthly salaries and income were discussed.

The board declared in a statement that the term of the central contract would be one year. Every year, the players’ fitness and performance will be evaluated.

Participants will be added to various categories following a clearly laid out procedure.”

The PCB also ruled that players would have to play domestic cricket and that their fitness would be assessed every three months.

Star pacer Shaheen Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan are among the Category A players who currently receive a monthly salary of Rs4.5 million.

In the meantime, Category B members Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah receive monthly salaries of Rs3 million.

Players in category C, which includes Imad Wasim, get paid between Rs750,00 and Rs1.5 million a month.
