PPP should sit in opposition if Bilawal not made PM, suggests top leader

Faisal Karim Kundi says party to decide about Sindh chief minister in today's CEC meeting

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Faisal Karim Kundi feels that if party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is not elected prime minister, his party should sit in the opposition.

The PPP’s central secretary reiterated that if Bilawal is not elected Prime Minister, the party should sit on the opposition benches.

He stated that they might vote for the PML-N’s choice for Prime Minister and sit on the opposition benches.

Kundi stated that the points discussed at the PPP and PML-N meeting the day before will be presented to the party’s Central Executive Committee when it met today.

“In my opinion, if PDM part two comes [to power] then it will not be able to work properly,” the head of the PPP remarked. He also stated that the new government will confront significant challenges because it will not have a majority.

The PPP now has 54 members in the National Assembly, and its numbers are expected to play a significant role because whoever it endorses would be able to secure the PM House.

The party also won a majority in the Sindh and Balochistan assemblies. Sindh can create a government without the backing of any other party, however Balochistan requires a partner to form a government.

Kundi responded to a query about who would be nominated for the position of Sindh chief minister by saying that the PPP’s CEC would decide on this today.

Kundi further stated that if the PPP assists the PML-N in creating the government in Punjab, it will seek the party’s assistance to form the government in Balochistan.

The PPP is the largest party in Balochistan, with 11 seats, followed by the JUI-F and the PML-N, both of which have 10 seats.

However, in Punjab, following the February 8 general elections, PML-N emerged as the largest party in the Punjab Assembly with 138 seats, followed by PTI-backed independents who received 116 seats, while the candidates who ran as independents, without any party’s backing, stood at 22, PPP at 10, PML-Q at 7, IPP, TLP, and PML-Z have one seat each.
