The Spaniard played a crucial role in Rome the previous year as Europe won the championship back.
However, Rahm’s transfer to LIV Golf raises questions about whether he will play in the US Open in New York the following year.
He was punished for competing in LIV events supported by Saudi Arabia without first getting authorization from the European tour, which clashed with DP World Tour events.
In order to continue playing on the DP World Tour and be qualified to play at Bethpage in 2025, the 29-year-old must compete in three more tournaments before the season concludes in November.
Rahm has registered for the Andalucia Masters, the Dunhill Links Championship, and the Spanish Open; nevertheless, a DP World Tour representative informed Sport that “he is ineligible to play” until the fines are paid.
Rahm made the following statement on Wednesday at LIV Chicago: “I’m not a big fan of the fines.” We’re still trying to talk to them (the DP World Tour) about how we can make this work, but I don’t plan to pay the penalty.
“I want to perform in Spain. It’s different whether or not they let me to play.”
To keep their membership, European players need to participate in four DP World Tour events annually. Rahm’s Olympic participation in Paris was one of them.
