This week, a grandmother who identifies as vegetarian drew criticism from Reddit users after disclosing that she had put her 5-year-old youngest grandchild to bed “hungry” following a particularly difficult babysitting experience in which the child seemed unwilling to eat the food she had prepared.
As her introduction on the platform, she posted, “Hello, all, I’m 59,” on the “AITA” (“Am I the a–hole”) subreddit.
Referring to the couple, she stated that their 31-year-old daughter has “been living with me for the past few months, as they’ve had some financial trouble.” (She didn’t disclose where she was.)

The woman, who went by the handle “MamaBear5738,” added, “Her husband is 38, and they have 4 children, from 5 years old to 9 years old.”
She continued, “I’m vegetarian, so I don’t cook meat in the house, but her youngest is picky and usually doesn’t like my food.”
Her daughter, as she put it, “cooks a few meals a week, and she’ll usually make something for the kids if I’m making something they won’t like.”
nevertheless, “last weekend my daughter said she was going out with her friends and I assumed she would be home by dinner, because she didn’t say anything specifically to me about doing anything for the kids.”
However, the daughter did not return by nine o’clock at night, and the grandmother noted that “the kids were hungry.”
