The Punjab administration emphasized Tuesday that the limits put in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail were not intended to impede meetings between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and party founder Imran Khan.
The announcement came after Khan, a former prime minister imprisoned in multiple charges and serving more than three decades, was prevented from addressing meetings in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Prison for two weeks due to security concerns.
“This move was not intended to take away any facilities from him [Khan]. “There is a serious threat alert that is being investigated,” Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari told News’ Shahzeb Khanzada.
Bukhari, who recently started office after her party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, an arch adversary of the PTI, came into power, said her party was not seeking revenge against the former.
She explained that the new limits were established after law enforcement caught terrorists who had a plan of the jail where Khan is now being held.
Last Monday, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have apprehended three terrorists, purportedly from Afghanistan, who possessed a blueprint of Adiala Jail, a hand grenade, and improvised explosive devices.
