On the second day of the Melbourne competition, the 36-year-old British player lost 6-4 6-2 6-2 with little expression on his face.
Murray, a five-time finalist, was only the second player in his previous 13 appearances to miss the second round.
Murray remarked, “I won’t win many matches playing that way.”
“It’s a definite possibility that will be the last time I play here.”
The Scottish player has lost both of his games this year, even though he acknowledged in the preseason that 2024 might be his last season before retiring.
Murray, who struggled for form in the latter half of the 2023 season, told BBC Sport in Brisbane that if he did not enjoy playing this year, he might consider quitting his illustrious career.
