A Russian Ka-226 light utility helicopter crashed in southern Dagestan on Sunday, killing four people and injuring two others after spiraling out of control during a failed landing attempt.
Video footage captured the aircraft trying to touch down on a beach when its tail struck the ground, snapping off the tail rotor. The pilot attempted to climb back into the air but quickly lost control, causing the helicopter to spin violently before plunging into a residential building near the village of Achi-Su.
All four people on board were killed, including Achalo Magomedov, the deputy general director for construction and transport at the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant. The plant, which produces aircraft parts for the Russian military, is sanctioned by the European Union for supporting actions that threaten Ukraine’s sovereignty.
The crash triggered a massive fire, with video from the scene showing firefighters battling flames that reduced the damaged home to rubble. Another clip showed the helicopter ripping through a rooftop before erupting into a fireball.
Local reports confirmed the victims were employees of the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant.
The deadly incident occurred as Russia ramped up its aerial offensive against Ukraine. Overnight, Moscow launched more than 450 drones and 45 missiles, killing at least three people and striking critical energy facilities across three regions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks, saying they marked another escalation in Russia’s ongoing assault.
