An essential step forward in the nation’s electoral reform plan has been made with the unanimous approval of the Election Act Amendment Bill 2024 by the Pakistani Senate, which is led by Yousaf Raza Gilani.
Even though it caused controversy and criticism during the session, the Islamabad Municipal Elections Amendment Bill was also approved by a majority vote.
FALR Tarar, the Minister of Federal Law, presented both legislation in court during the Tuesday session.
The Senate overwhelmingly approved the Election Act Amendment Bill 2024, demonstrating legislators’ agreement that these revisions are essential in order to modify and enhance Pakistan’s electoral structure.
The Islamabad Municipal Elections Amendment Bill, which was passed by a majority vote, also updated the city’s local government structure.
