During an evidentiary hearing, Fani Willis, the Georgia district attorney prosecuting former President Donald Trump for allegedly trying to rig the 2020 election, engaged in heated debate with attorneys for hours about her relationship with the lead prosecutor she hired to pursue the case against Trump.
Judge Scott McAfee, who is presiding over the case, once called a five-minute break to reportedly allow people’s emotions to settle.
He warned attorneys to quit “talking over each other” and warned Willis that they needed to pay attention to the questions being posed when the court reconvened. And I will be forced to suppress your testimony if this keeps happening.”
Willis stated in the motion that she “had some choice words about some of the things” that defense lawyer Ashleigh Merchant and her client Michael Roman, who is Trump’s codefendant in the case, said. Willis was particularly critical of Merchant. Willis referred to the move as “dishonest.”
