A school shooting in southern Turkey has left at least eight students and one teacher dead. Several other people were also injured during the attack. Authorities confirmed that the attacker died at the scene.
The incident took place at Ayser Calik Secondary School in the Kahramanmaras region. Police and emergency teams reached the site soon after the shooting began.
Details of the attack
Interior Minister Mustafa Cifci said that 13 people were wounded in the attack. Six of them are in critical condition and are receiving urgent medical care.
Local governor Mukerren Unluer stated that the attacker was killed during the incident. Officials believe the suspect was a teenager.
Reports from Turkish media suggest the attacker entered two classrooms during the assault. He was reportedly carrying five firearms and seven magazines. Authorities suspect the weapons belonged to his father, a former police officer.
Investigation underway
Officials have not confirmed a motive yet. Investigators are currently collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses.
Security teams are also reviewing how the attacker managed to bring weapons inside the school. The case remains under active investigation.
Second attack in two days
This incident comes just one day after another school shooting in southern Turkey. In that earlier attack, 16 people were injured. The attacker was a former student who later died by suicide.
The close timing of both incidents has raised serious concern across the country.
