Locals refer to it as Djamaa El-Djazair. Up to 120,000 people can pray simultaneously. It has the world’s highest minaret, measuring 265 metres (869 ft). The only mosques larger than it are located in Saudi Arabia’s Makkah and Madina.
After seven years of building, a massive modernist complex (almost 70 acres) was completed, ornamented with wood and marble and infused with Arabic and North African elements. It even has a helicopter pad and a library fit for a million books.
The massive mosque, built by a Chinese company, reportedly cost nearly $900 million to construct.
