Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, the Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce, has resisted any attempt to outlaw the Imran Khan-founded party, even as the ruling coalition and the opposition PTI clashed over the protest in Islamabad on November 24.
“PTI is a political party and a ban should not be imposed on it,” Hussain stated in a media appearance on Wednesday.
Hussain also urged for negotiations with the PTI. His party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), is an ally of the PML-N-led government in Punjab and the Center.
In the same sentence, he demanded that those responsible for the destruction of victims’ monuments during last year’s May 9 riots be held accountable. This was a reference to the violent demonstrations that erupted across the nation after the PTI founder was arrested.
