In honor of the FIFA World Cup’s centennial, the opening games of the 2030 men’s World Cup will take place in South America, with Spain, Portugal, and Morocco serving as co-hosts.
This implies that teams from several hemispheres and seasons will compete in the same competition.
In 2030, who else wished to host?
In early 2023, four South American countries—Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Argentina—filed a combined proposal.
However, Fifa announced in October of that year that Morocco, Portugal, and Spain’s combined proposal was the only one.
In 2021, Spain and Portugal made their first attempt in tandem, and the following year, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine joined.
However, Morocco took Ukraine’s spot despite alleged worries due to the ongoing conflict and governance.
