Once referred to as “Africa’s richest woman,” Angolan entrepreneur Isabel dos Santos has criticized the UK for placing sanctions on her, telling the news that the action was unexpected because she had not been convicted of “any corruption in any court in any country.”
The UK government labeled the daughter of the former president of Angola a “notorious kleptocrat” last month and banned her from travel and frozen her assets for allegedly embezzling money from oil-rich Angola.
She claimed that a campaign to damage her reputation was being carried out by the government of Angola.
From her headquarters in Dubai, 51-year-old Dos Santos told the news Africa Daily program, “It’s political at the end of the day.”
