The United States’ decision to levy an additional 25% duty on Indian exports has been sharply criticized by India, which has described it as a “unjustified” reaction to the nation’s continued energy imports from Russia.
Trade tensions between the two countries are thought to have significantly increased as a result of the action.
US restrictions on Russian oil imports are met with response from India
Washington’s move to punish India for buying Russian crude oil, which it claims is based on market dynamics and essential to its national energy security, was sharply attacked by New Delhi in a statement released by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday.
According to the statement, “our imports are determined by market factors and carried out with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people.”
