Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has categorically rejected the possibility of any compromise on the nation’s nuclear program in response to the sanctions imposed by the United States (US).
“The restrictions that have been placed on us have no basis in reality [….] “Pakistan’s nuclear program will not be compromised,” the prime minister declared during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The prime minister’s comments coincide with President Joe Biden’s administration’s announcement last week that it would impose further restrictions on Pakistan’s ballistic missile program, focusing on four organizations it claimed were involved in the delivery or proliferation of such weapons.
The Foreign Office responded strongly to the measure, calling it “biased” and cautioning that it would have detrimental effects on strategic stability.
