KARACHI: The installation of a large underwater internet cable is anticipated to significantly improve internet dependability and speed. The project is part of the 2Africa Submarine Cable System, which is facilitated by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) via the cable’s landing partner in Pakistan, Transworld Associate (TWA).
Using cutting-edge SDM1 technology with a capacity of 180 Tbps, the 45,000-kilometer 2Africa cable links 46 locations in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. According to a press statement from PTA, the cable, which is backed by a worldwide consortium that includes Vodafone and Meta, is anticipated to launch in Pakistan by Q4 2025.
Pre-Lay Shore End (PLSE) installation began on December 1, 2024, as the initial stage of the project.
