However, the mood changed later in the week. Rising government bond yields, higher oil prices and renewed inflation concerns pushed global stocks lower. Markets were heading toward their biggest weekly decline since mid July.

Quick Facts

Detail Information
What happened Global equity funds attracted $22.01 billion in net inflows.
Where Global markets, including the United States, Europe, Asia and emerging markets.
When Week through August 19, 2026.
Who is involved Global investors, equity funds, bond funds and financial markets.
Current status Investors continued buying equities, but rising bond yields, oil prices and inflation concerns pressured markets later in the week.
Why it matters The strong fund inflows show continued investor confidence, while the late selloff highlights growing risks for global markets.

Global Equity Funds Attract $22 Billion

Global equity funds received a net $22.01 billion during the week, according to LSEG Lipper data. It marked the biggest weekly inflow since July 29.

Strong corporate earnings helped support investor confidence. Around 90% of MSCI World companies had reported their second quarter results. Combined net income increased 39.7% from a year earlier.

Investors also watched developments in the artificial intelligence sector. Anthropic recently projected strong revenue growth. Attention is now turning to Nvidia’s upcoming results, which could offer fresh clues about demand for AI infrastructure and data center technology.

U.S. Funds Lead Regional Inflows

U.S. equity funds attracted $11.72 billion during the week. That was their strongest weekly inflow since July 29.

European equity funds received $4.70 billion, while Asian equity funds attracted $2.96 billion.

The figures show that investors continued to favor major stock markets despite growing concerns about inflation and borrowing costs.

Technology Funds Return to Favor

Technology funds attracted $1.55 billion during the week. The sector returned to positive inflows after investors pulled money from technology funds during the previous week.

Gold and precious metals equity funds also attracted investors. They received $536 million during the week.

Financial sector funds moved in the opposite direction. Investors withdrew $1.59 billion from the sector.

Bond Funds See 20th Straight Week of Inflows

Investors continued buying bond funds for a 20th consecutive week. The funds attracted a net $15.42 billion.

Hard currency bond funds received $4.49 billion. This marked their strongest weekly inflow since July 8.

Short term bond funds attracted $3.32 billion. Government bond funds received another $1.99 billion.

Money market funds also recorded net inflows of $3.71 billion. However, that figure marked a three week low.

Gold Funds Extend Six Week Winning Streak

Gold and other precious metals funds attracted $2.04 billion during the week. The inflows extended their winning streak to six consecutive weeks.

Investors showed less interest in energy funds. These funds recorded $146 million in outflows after attracting $434 million during the previous week.

The shift suggests that investors are becoming more cautious as oil prices rise and inflation risks return to focus.

Emerging Markets Continue to Attract Investors

Emerging market equity funds also remained popular. Data covering 28,980 emerging market funds showed $1.57 billion in equity fund inflows.

This marked the sixth consecutive week of inflows for emerging market equity funds.

Emerging market bond funds also recorded positive flows. Investors added a net $493 million, marking their third straight week of inflows.

Markets Face Fresh Pressure

The strong fund inflows came before a sharp change in market sentiment later in the week.

Higher government bond yields can make equities less attractive because they increase the return available from relatively lower risk assets. Higher oil prices can also increase inflation pressure and affect corporate costs.

As a result, investors are now watching inflation data, bond yields, oil prices and corporate earnings more closely.

Nvidia’s upcoming earnings report could become another major test for investor confidence. The results may provide important information about demand for AI chips, data centers and related infrastructure.

Global Equity Funds Rise Despite Market Pressure

Global equity funds attracted $22.01 billion during the week through August 19, marking their strongest inflow in three weeks. Strong corporate earnings and optimism around artificial intelligence helped keep investors interested in stocks.

At the same time, rising bond yields, higher oil prices and renewed inflation concerns created fresh pressure on markets.

The combination of strong fund inflows and a late week selloff shows that investor confidence remains positive but fragile. Upcoming corporate earnings and economic data could determine whether markets regain momentum or face further pressure
