Robert Fico, the populist prime minister of Slovakia, has asserted that opposition forces are preparing a “Maidan”-style coup in Slovakia, alluding to the 2014 popular movement that overthrew Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Russian president of Ukraine.
Before a resolution of no-confidence in his administration was introduced by the opposition on Tuesday, Fico, who escaped an assassination attempt in May of last year, cited what he claimed was a classified dossier.
His assertion came while Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, was in town.
Both politicians have called for peace negotiations with Vladimir Putin of Russia and harshly criticized the president of Ukraine.
Fico was charged by the opposition with exploiting the SIS in order to sabotage legislative process and shield his government, which has a slim majority, from public scrutiny.
