As the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner and Real Madrid’s most successful player is ready to wrap off a trophy-filled time in Spain, Luka Modric, a Croatian midfielder, announced on Thursday that he will be leaving the club following the Club World Cup.
Modric, who joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, has played in approximately 600 games and won roughly 30 trophies, including four La Liga championships and a record six Champions League wins.
The 39-year-old stated that he would retire following Real Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign, which starts next month, and that his final game at the Bernabeu will be Saturday’s La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad.
