KHYBER: In the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, armed attackers opened fire on an anti-polio vaccination team that was being escorted under police protection, killing a police officer.
On the first day of the nationwide anti-polio virus campaign, which began this morning, the inoculation team was ambushed during the immunization drive in the Bakarabad district. Thankfully, the polio workers were unharmed by the attack, but the police officer tasked with protecting them was killed immediately.
In the vicinity of Jamrud town in northwest KP, “two motorcycle riders opened fire” on the officer who was on his way to protect polio vaccines, local police official Zarmat Khan told AFP.
Following the attack, police said that the attackers were able to flee, and the vaccination campaign was halted.
