In Sri Lanka, a statewide blackout has been attributed to a monkey.
The interruption started at approximately 11 a.m. local time (5.30 a.m. GMT) on Sunday, leaving the majority of the 22 million people living in the island nation without power.
Reporters were informed by the nation’s energy minister, Kumara Jayakody, that the blackout was brought on by a monkey striking a grid transformer close to Colombo, the island’s judicial and executive center.
After the outage, Mr. Jayakody stated, “A monkey has come in contact with our grid transformer, causing an imbalance in the system.”
“Engineers are attending to it to try and restore the service as soon as possible,” he stated.
While many houses remained without electricity until late Sunday, power was restored in several places in a few of hours.
