After accusing former President Joseph Kabila of supporting rebels in the east, the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is attempting to remove his protection from prosecution.
Justice Minister Constant Mutamba stated on Wednesday that there was a “substantial body of documents, testimony and material facts” that connected Kabila to the M23 armed group.
Following major gains earlier this year, the M23 now controls portions of the country’s mineral-rich east.
Kabila, 53, has previously denied any affiliation with the insurgents but has not responded to the claims.
