Following President Xi Jinping’s recent trip to Moscow for a sumptuous World War II Victory Day parade, China announced on Thursday that it was prepared to “expand practical cooperation” with the Russian army.
Since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, among other recent events, the two nations have become closer.
Kyiv’s allies were incensed by Xi’s visit to Russia last week, accusing Beijing of providing Moscow with political and economic cover to launch an aggressive war.
Beijing claims to be impartial in the dispute and to have made unrelenting attempts to bring about peace.
The partnership was “operating at a high level” on Thursday when asked how China will advance military-to-military ties with Russia in response to a question related to Xi’s visit.
