With almost eight million women gaining mobile internet connection in 2024—a record-breaking increase in female digital connectivity—Pakistan has seen a major turning point in digital inclusion.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja, State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, revealed the numbers on Thursday, emphasizing the country’s closing gender gap in digital technology. In a significant step toward digital equality, she disclosed that the difference in internet usage between men and women had decreased from 38% to 25%.
“The prime minister’s digital vision and the government’s all-encompassing efforts to empower women through technology are reflected in this progress,” the minister stated.
She underlined that the Ministry of IT continues to prioritize women’s digital inclusion, with a particular emphasis on rural areas.
