KARACHI: In a remarkable showing at the Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship, Pakistan’s Bano Kousar upset India’s Richa Sharma to win gold in the women’s 48-kilogram contact ju-jitsu division on Sunday.
Kousar’s triumph on the third day of the tournament in Amman was the high point of Pakistan’s impressive performance, which earlier in the week also included two bronze medals.
Isra Waseem and Kainat Arif won bronze in the women’s pair competition, while Muhammad Ali Rashid and Muhammad Yousuf Ali won bronze in the men’s duet division.
The Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation’s chairman, Khalil Ahmed Khan, commended the team’s accomplishment. “These are proof that Pakistani athletes are world-class, not just medals,” he stated. “The credit goes to the coaches, athletes and the entire support staff worked tirelessly.”
