An 88-year-old Holocaust survivor who fled the Nazis in 1940s France as a small child and later relocated to the UK in order to start over has passed away.
During the Nazi occupation of Paris in 1942, Suzanne Rappaport Ripton was just six years old when her parents were captured. However, she was rescued by a neighbor who took her under her kitchen table for several weeks.
Following the war, the Red Cross moved Ms. Ripton to England, where she lived in London and, more recently, Leeds, after she had previously lived in foster homes in rural France.
Simon Phillips, from the Leeds Jewish Housing Association, said Ms Ripton, who was last year awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM), “sadly missed”.
