Authorities and local TV channels said on Tuesday that at least four people had been killed and over fifty others were missing after a village in the northern Indian Himalayan state of Uttarakhand was swamped by rushing floodwaters and a torrent of muck.
According to local officials, teams from the army and emergency response forces had arrived, and workers were attempting to rescue individuals who were buried beneath muck and rubble.
As residents fled for their life, TV news programs showed muck and floodwaters rushing down a hillside and crashing into the community, wiping away roads and houses.
The state chief minister’s office posted a video update showing the mudslide cleaving through Dharali village and burying some houses.
