What is matcha?
Matcha, which translates to “ground tea” from Japanese, is a bright green powder that is whisked with hot water and can be used with milk to create matcha lattes.
Early in the ninth century, China brought green tea to Japan, where it was initially utilized for therapeutic purposes.
As part of the tea ceremony tradition created by tea master Sen no Rikyu, matcha arrived much later, in Kyoto in the 16th century.
