WASHINGTON: On Saturday, the US Senate moved on with President Donald Trump’s comprehensive tax and spending measure, despite entrepreneur Elon Musk’s warnings that the draft law would “cause immense strategic harm” to the US and “destroy millions of jobs.”
Musk called the plan “utterly insane and destructive,” claiming it undermined future sectors while providing subsidies to outmoded ones.
His comments followed a crucial procedural vote that went 51–49, increasing the likelihood that Republicans will be able to approve Trump’s “big, beautiful bill”—his main legislative priority—in the days ahead.
After hours of delay, the procedural vote that would begin debate on the 940-page megabill to finance Trump’s major military, immigration, border, and tax-cut goals got underway.
