According to the government, smoking will be prohibited in parks, public gardens, bus shelters, and beaches starting on Sunday.
In addition to prohibiting smoking outside of schools, libraries, and swimming pools, the order, which was released in the official government gazette on Saturday, aims to shield kids from passive smoking.
Electronic cigarettes were not mentioned in the ordinance. A punishment of 135 euros ($158) will be imposed on those who break the prohibition.
In May, Health and Family Minister Catherine Vautrin emphasized “the right of children to breathe pure air” by stating that tobacco must be removed from areas where children are present.
The prohibition does not apply to cafe terraces.
