ISLAMABAD: India was trying to use water as a weapon against Pakistan, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who also promised that Islamabad would not tolerate any violation of its territorial integrity or sovereignty.
In regard to New Delhi’s detention in violation of the Indus Waters Treaty, Dar claimed that India was attempting to hold 240 million Pakistanis captive through “water terrorism” at a speech commemorating the 52nd anniversary of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI).
The deputy prime minister declared, “India must reevaluate its policies and cannot force its will on Pakistan.” He cautioned that India’s actions would be inappropriate and ineffective, including any attempt to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty.
