ISLAMABAD: In accordance with the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, which requires the sharing of such data twice a year on January 1 and July 1, Pakistan and India on Monday exchanged lists of inmates detained in each other’s custody.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan gave an Indian High Commission official in Islamabad a list of 246 Indian or suspected Indian captives, comprising 193 fishermen and 53 civilians.
Simultaneously, India gave a diplomat from Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi a list of 463 inmates who were either Pakistani or thought to be Pakistani, including 382 civilians and 81 fisherman.
Pakistan has demanded that all Pakistani nationals who have served their time and whose nationality has been confirmed be released and repatriated right now.
