The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s freshly elected members on reserved seats are not allowed to take an oath of office, according to the Peshawar High Court.
Justice Syed Arshad Ali presided over a two-member bench that considered the case contesting the equitable allocation of restricted seats. In addition to ordering that the oath-taking of members on reserved seats be postponed until the next hearing on July 3, the court has requested a thorough answer from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to the petitioner’s attorney, proportional representation was not followed by the ECP when allocating the reserved seats. The lawyer said that PTIP holds two general seats and is entitled to one reserved seat for women when Justice Arshad Ali asked if the party had presented a list for the reserved seats during the hearings.
