Off its Caribbean coast, the Colombian military reported Wednesday that it had captured an unmanned narco-submarine with a Starlink antenna for the first time.
Although the Colombian navy and Western security sources in the area told AFP they thought it was a cocaine trafficking cartel’s test run of an unmanned vessel, the vessel was not carrying contraband.
“It was being tested and was empty,” a naval spokeswoman told AFP.
The official acknowledged that the ship “had that technology” when asked if Starlink was operating it, but added that the navy “was still studying how exactly it operated.”
During a news conference, Navy Commander Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo announced the finding, which is among the first South American discoveries to be reported.
