On Wednesday, Republicans in the House of Representatives made a halting progress toward passing US President Donald Trump’s enormous tax-cut and spending measure, perhaps overcoming some hardliner worries about its cost.
The measure then stalled once more.
In order to allow Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson time to persuade skeptics to support the president’s hallmark package, a procedural vote was left open for over seven hours while lawmakers moved between closed-door talks.
The procedural vote ultimately passed 220-212 along party lines, suggesting—but not confirming—that Trump may have gained the support of his detractors.
