A cargo ship from Pakistan that was parked at Beira Port in Mozambique was confiscated by authorities for failing to pay outstanding debts. According to the ship’s captain, the crew has also been taken into custody.
According to Captain Aslam, the lack of basic supplies is causing the ship’s crew to suffer greatly. “We are out of water and food. The emergency lights might soon go out, and the air conditioner is no longer functional. In the near future, mobile phone communication will be impossible,” he cautioned.
The issue worsened when unpaid debts associated with the ship, Gas Flek, were not settled, leading Mozambican authorities to seize the ship and arrest her crew.
