Ishaq Dar, the foreign minister and deputy prime minister, has voiced concerns that the Modi government intends to keep occupied Kashmir as a union territory while restoring Jammu’s sovereignty.
He said this while speaking during a demonstration held Tuesday from the Foreign Office to D-Chowk in Islamabad in honor of Youm-e-Istehsal, the sixth anniversary of New Delhi renouncing India Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s (IIOJK) semi-autonomous status.
Referring to allegations in the Indian media, Dar stated, “Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were declared as union territories on August 5, 2019, but now it’s being said that Jammu will be given a statehood.”
The decision on this matter may be made public in the coming hours or days, according to the deputy prime minister.
